Anushree Gavas : Portrait of a city

6

She's been called a dreamer, as if out of a wonderland. Her pictures too have that quality of bright cheeriness which warms the heart, leaving you with a thought of peace. And she's been out on the streets of Mumbai with a Diana F+. Here's what she has to say about the beauty of the people in portraits and the simplicity of Diana F+

Name: Anushree Gavas
Lomography Username: anushreegavas
Age: 24
Favourite cameras: Diana F+, pictures by the Diana are a riot of colors!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got introduced to Lomography
I am Anushree and I am 24. Helloo!! and I keep myself busy with a lot of stuff trying my hand at everything that I love. I am passionate about art and truly believe that " Earth without “art” is just “eh!”.

What is it that attracted you to film more than digital?
Hmm… Its been quite a while now that I am into photography though Lomography has been fairly new to me. The change from digital to film has been very rewarding with a surprise factor in every frame. It’s so much fun waiting and seeing your photos developed.

Why the Diana F+?
Firstly the name, I love the name. And then its 120mm, I love medium format!!

After every picture, you have to set it yourself to the next picture. I love that! It has a great vintage feel to it. It being so light and easy to use makes you think that its very impossible that it will take pictures. But you should just click and wait for the pictures and you are sure to love them!!

It just looks cool, doesn’t it? When people see it, they want to ask you about it and they start talking about photography. Some of them even asked me if it’s a toy!!

You’ve been shooting for some time now, where do you see yourself in the future with it?
Geesh!! Thats a little difficult to tell. But all I can say that I am very very excited about some projects that I am working on. So watch this space for new updates on me : )

What is your favorite subject and why?
I think people around me are my most favorite thing to photograph. My surroundings would be incomplete without them..I want a piece/memory of everybody that I have met in my life. {pssst.. its one the personal projects that I am working on}.

There is a sense of lightness in your images, where does that come from in your work?
I honestly don’t go thinking and searching for a good picture. My pictures are very personal to me and I take a picture of just about everything I like!! I just take care of aesthetics of photography because I do want to put my pictures on the wall and I want it to look good.

The sea or the mountains?
In the mountains for sure!

What would be the soundtrack of your gallery?
This Will Destroy You by Freedom Blade

One place you wish to photograph with your Diana F+?
Ireland

Any tips to other Diana F+ users?
Just try and get to understand your camera, go on trips with it. You have to understand your Diana F+, it has a soul of its own. But once you are in tune with it, you ll make art. So, Happy Clicking!
