Home-Fig-Harvest in Algeria

1

My trip to Algeria this summer, with its special exotic of the North-African coast, had a few moments to remember. We got attached to a family, with who we spent most of our time. They had a fantastic house at a large avenue. But behind a wall towards the street shined a quite big yard with a pretty house and even with a sub-yard, where they put all the trash. Like a massive garage. This espacio had even more quality, because a nice fig-tree was growing there and his huge branches were heading over to the "show-off" yard. Figs can be harvested two times a year, if I remember right, and for our stay in August we got lucky to be right on time!

So we could pick as many figs as we wanted for lunch and dinner and when we went back to our hotel we always got a load with us. When we parted for our way back to Germany we got a massive load as a travel-lunch pack.

Figs are sweet and I really like their awkward texture. But you definitely have to eat them fresh, best straight from the tree. Sometime you can even eat their skin, but best would be to pull it off. Even if you put them in the fridge they start to fall apart and to ferment. Maybe they will make up a good drug and you can call them magic figs, but we didn’t take the walk on the wild side.

A few months ago, I thought I had an intolerance against the milk sugar lactose. I got stomach aches every time I ate something with milk in it so I used lactase to prevent it. But when I consulted a doctor to be tested, they said it was something else.

LomoAmigos: The Ting Tings Go Analogue!

The Ting Tings are a musical duo from Manchester who have more pop hits than you can shake a stick at. They are most famous for their 2008 hit "That's Not My Name" which got even the stiffest of people shaking in their seats. The Ting Tings are back with a brand new album called Super Critical. They are big film fanatics (check out their website for proof) so we gave them a Sprocket Rocket Camera and a bunch of film to document their life in sunny IBIZA.

Feldküche is a group that organizes dinner parties with a difference by cooking wonderful meals for groups throughout the Austrian countryside. This summer, we gave them a New Petzval lens to use in capturing their wonderful gatherings of people, food, drink and nature. We then got the opportunity to chat with Martin Fetz who runs the organization about what they do and their experiences shooting with the Petzval.

Here's an idea we've came up with to make liking on Lomography even easier: allowing you to like photos on the overview page. Right now we've only unlocked it for albums – so please give it a try before we roll it out throughout the site!
