Graffiti & Skater Boys

Webo29 takes you through Malta’s one and only skate park.

Just outside the University of Malta Campus there’s a huge hollow roundabout which links one bypass to another (a bypass is not a heart operation but a mini version of a highway).

This hollow roundabout has, for a couple of years now, been transformed into a skate park where pros and beginners alike can practice their skills to their heart’s desire – that or until they haven’t got any unbroken bones left.

I must admit that I’m no skater. Nothing could be further from reality so you probably think I have little interest in the park. Well, yes and no.

The park is full of graffiti, some not worth a mention, others on the other hand, are quite relevant, colourful and even pleasant to look at. The place is open-air and therefore gets ample sunlight which means it’s not too difficult to bring out a good likeness of the spray can colours on film.

Obviously if you’re after action, it’s in the evenings when you should visit, perhaps armed with a Supersampler and high ISO film to catch all the action right at the source.

Me, I haven’t yet ventured there at night, but here are some lomos of the graffiti I shot during the day with my Diana Mini and the Lomo Fisheye 2. Enjoy!
