The Windmill, Brixton

1

An awesome gig venue in the heart of residential Brixton!

Looking for The Windmill is no easy task. You can hear the thumping music yet you can’t seem to find the venue. Eventually you find it. The Windmill looks more like a small, local community center rather than rocking joint.

Located on a sleepy residential street in Brixton, the venue is well known for it’s open approach to music and gigs. Claiming to listen to every demo that crosses its threshold, The Windmill plays host to all genres of live music.

On the night in question, we were there to see Irish punk-rock band, The Vagabonds. Describing their sound as “not quirky, not folksy” The Windmill played the perfect stage for the fast paced quartet.

After the headliners, the resident DJ played an eclectic mix of tunes that included Iron Maiden, The Temptations and Tina Turner.

Whilst a bit far for those not near Brixton, The Windmill is definately a venue to check out if you like both bands and gigs that are a smidgen off the beaten track!

The Windmill is located at 22 Blenheim Gardens, Brixton, London SW2 5BZ. Full gig listings can be found at http://windmillbrixton.co.uk/

He is also described as a 'Seeker of abandoned spaces,' and 'reenactor of the war of 1812,' We were fortunately able to get in touch with this film aficionado, who agreed to grant an interview.
