Diana Mini-Spin with Friends!

7

This is a tipster that shows you that you don't always need a spinner 360 to get an awesome pan. In fact, you can't even get this effect with the spinner. all you need is a Diana Mini, a flash and some friends!

in this tipster you will learn to make a Multiple exposure panoramic using the amazing Diana mini.
Here is the result we are looking for.

This was an idea i had for an art project i did for class where we had to look at something differently than normal.
i decided to take the entire class outside under the patio awning and had the entire class stand in a circle.
i prepared my Diana Mini with my ring flash ( you can alter one of the fish eye camera adapters for the ring flash to work for the Diana mini, the tutorial is in the tipster section.)

the idea of the photo, is that you want to have everyone take a picture of the next person in line. I took a picture of the person to my left, and they did the same to the person to their left, and so on and so forth until everyone has shot a frame and has been shot.

A major thing to remember is to only advance the film partially after each shot. you dont want to advance all the way otherwise you wouldn’t get the panoramic shot.
Make sure that the camera is set to the right aperture, im pretty sure mine at the time was set for cloudy because there wasn’t a lot of light out.

now, depending on how much light you have, the flash is optional. what was interesting about my experiment, is that since the class hadn’t experienced the camera before, and the hot shoe adapter for the ring flash is so short, it usually slipped out and didn’t fire some times, causing only certain people to be exposed and others not. i think even with a sunny day, using the flash would be a nice effect to make the subjects stand out.

technically, you can use any camera that allows you to partially advance and do multiexposures, like the Diana+ and the Holga.

also try color filters for the flash and using different films, the sky is the limit and the results are always interesting!

great idea! i just have one question...how do you develop the film?

Get the film processed only. Then take your negatives home and cut them yourself accordingly. Then scan them yourself as well. It's what I do for all my film.

I've done a lot of partial advance work with my holga 135 and have been really satisfied with the results. Check out my album www.lomography.com/homes/zufolare/albums/1718305-one-long-p…
You can get some really neat effects with lowlighting because the edges aren't as noticeable and the hotspots aren't as blown out.

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.

Even something as decorous as a fashion snapshot has a historical function. It recalls norms imposed on women. Even more interesting is how they followed or twisted these expectations: Did ladies flash skin as an expression of freedom? Did they enjoy fashion?
