Psychedelic Flashlight!

When I first started out in Lomography, I bought a Holga 135BC and the natural thing to do is to buy a Holga flash. However, I soon discover that the Holga flash has some limitations and inconveniences. Fortunately, Lomography Asia has the perfect solution!

My main issue with the Holga flash is that it is quite “tall” and has only 4 color gels that are fixed onto the camera. Hence, I can’t easily “color splash” my photos with other colors.

I “discovered” the solution to my issues when I browsed through Lomography Asia’s online store one day – the Colorsplash Flash. It seems to be everything I am looking for, small form factor, low profile – checked, easily interchangeable color gels – checked. Immediately, I placed an order for the Colorsplash flash and eagerly await its arrival.

After using it on my various Lomography camera since the day I bought it, the Colorsplash flash didn’t disappoint. It is light and easy to carry around. The low profile means that if I were to stick it on some vintage film cameras where the hotshoe is at the side or bottom, it didn’t look too odd. It comes with more than enough color gels for every conceivable shooting scenarios. I can even stick 2 color gels into one slot to get additional psychedelic color effects. I had used it on Holga 135BC, FIsheye 2, LCA+, LCA, Smena Symbol, Sprocket Rocket without any issues.

If I were to be truly picky about the flash, I wished that the flash could be more powerful. However, I also understand that it would be difficult to achieve with only one AA battery powering this little wonder. Hence, I have learnt to work within its limitations. If I want a more powerful flash, I would use the Diana Flash. :)

Get a ringflash and feel the round-buzzing-light-effect.

Do you find that the film rewind knob on the Holga gets in the way of attaching the Colorsplash Flash?? Because I really like the things this flash can do, but I'm worried it won't fit on my Holga 135. I heard you can do a mod using a Diana Film Adapter to make it fit without interfering with the film rewind knob, but I don't see how that would work as there is nowhere on the Holga 135 to plug the adapter into! :0
