Redscale Film - Inverted Images

Redscale film is fun for two reasons. First of all because of the warm orange, yellow and red colors that it gives (even on a cloudy day) and second of all because it takes inverted pictures!

This means that your images will appear as if in a mirror. The cars will drive on the wrong side of the road and the words will be written backwards! The reason is that redscale film is loaded backwards and you shoot through a protective layer of film.

When you develop your film the lab will do everything like normal, but becasue of it being loaded backwards inverted images will appear. You might want to alert your labs about this film and its effects as well.

If you want to revert your images again, all you have to do is to use your favorite editing program. But you might also want to leave it the way it is.

Happy shooting!

Wow, I didnt knew it gives the mirror effect.

I thought it just makes it all red and stuff.

?????????? Mirror efect? how could it be? pictures invertion depends from film scanning side :) and not from the film invertion :)

think about it... you take the film to the lab, and they run it through the machine normally... when they go to scan, they use the numbers... but the film was in the canister upside down, so they don't know they have to flip it... so either you tell them, or you have to edit them afterwards to be correct...

of course, if you're thrifty and wise and scan your negatives yourself, you won't have this issue at all... ;)

I am a Mad Analogue Scientist: New Experiments with 35mm Films and Chemicals

Unfortunately, it happens sometimes that your resulting pictures are not what you expected - the image doesn't look that good, the colors are bland, and the subject is banal. Indeed, it couldn't be picture of the year! Herein I propose a second chance for your pictures by modifying your 35mm negatives. Just pick up some ideas from here, experiment, and scan your negatives with the Lomography Smartphone Scanner. Anything is possible: burning, scratching, putting on hydrochloric acid, balsamic vinegar, nail polish, bleach, or raspberry juice... use your imagination and write down your new film soup recipe! You can find a sample of the effects in this article.

Pushing Boundaries: So I Heard You Like Multiple Exposures

My name is Amber Valentine and I have a confession to make: I’m not really a photographer. I have a website full of photographs, a bookshelf full of cameras, film waiting to be developed, and a wall full of framed pictures I’ve taken. Even so, I don’t really consider myself a photographer per se. I think that Lomography is more about the experimentation and the fun of film than it is about the photography, and that experimentation is part of the reason I have embraced Lomography so.
