Lomography NYC photographs Yann Tiersen @ The Highline Ballroom

4

On Saturday February 19th, Yann Tiersen and his band performed at the Highline Ballroom here in New York City. (In case you aren't familiar with Yann Tiersen, he composed the music for the internationally-acclaimed film Amelie.)

Lucky for us, Lomography was invited to photograph the scene! Jessie Askinazi and Jessica Edwards geared up with an LC-A+, Colorsplash and the newest addition to our Lomo-cam-fam, the Sprocket Rocket!

Though the Diana Flash is extremely powerful, higher speed films like Fuji Pro 800Z and Fuji Neopan 1600 proved to outshine lower speed films (since we weren’t terribly close and the light indoors was minimal).

Scoring photo passes and witnessing the astounding live spectacle full of disco light, plaid button-ups and violin breakdowns was of course rewarding, but the highlight of the night was certainly when we were invited to head backstage!

Yann Tiersen called us out for taking a couple of personal shots on our phones and shouted “You guys are cheating!” He knows us Lomographers too well!

Twenty years on, Gilbert’s photographs have matured into an amazing documentation of some of the biggest music icons of that era. We caught up with Gilbert to ask him about these photographs and the fascinating story behind them.
