More than a tongue twister title, this Lomo Location is about my trip to a private beach house back in 2009. With new friends, a gorgeous place, and everyone just desiring to take off some steam from the stress of college life, it was the perfect beach weekend getaway. Our adventures took place in Matabungkay, Philippines.
It all began when Corrine, a good friend from university, invited me to join her and some friends to a weekend at their beach house. I didn’t have plans, and school was getting stressful, so I thought, “Why not?” Corrine was also the one who I borrowed the Fisheye from, and I knew it was the best time to try it out. This was back in 2009, when I was just starting out with film photography and borrowing all these interesting-looking Lomography Cameras.
Okay, note to self (and to you, friend): Uncap the lens. And we were on our way!
It was about an hour and a half to Batangas, and another couple of minutes to the private beach house. One of the things that I loved most about this trip was the house. It was such a lovely house! And it really felt like we were far, far away, in a fairytale, without the pollution of the city, surrounded by the sea and sand and sounds of soaring birds. It was a couple hundred meters away from the other resorts, so we were truly in our own little world.
After getting out of the van, settling down, looking at all the rooms and stretching, we decided to enjoy the summer sun and chill by the beach. It was right in front of the house, so it was absolutely perfect to have lunch and some ice cold fruit juice! Corrine had the cook prepare a feast! And we were off to bask in the light.
There was also this awesome floating hut! We were enjoying that part too much, I think. I’m thankful the Fisheye was brave enough to come with me to the water! At this time, I wasn’t aware of the LCA Krab yet. I’m sure that would have been a great beach buddy! Nevertheless, the Fisheye survived, no damage done, and we were still up for more adventures! As they say, bring your camera EVERYWHERE, and certainly that’s what happened in this trip!
To end the day and begin the night, we found a boat man to take us around the coast, pass by the other resorts, and explore! We hopped on it, brought Charlie along (Corrine’s dog) and the Fisheye too! We saw all kinds of sea creatures and critters, felt the fear of falling out of the boat in deep waters after jokingly pushing each other out, and most of all, took in all the beautiful, beautiful creations all around us. It was an amazing first Fisheye experience for me. I just feel bad that I didn’t take photos of the delicious feasts that were prepared for us! Just goes to show that it was really good. I couldn’t even think of taking photos. For everything else, the perfect place, a great bunch of people, here are the photos!
