Enjoyed 'Exit Through The Gift Shop'? Love yourself a bit of street-art? Stencils? Groovy graphically excellent graffiti? A veritable smorgasbord of street art awaits the discerning visitor to Melbourne, especially in Hosier Lane, but there are many other sweet street-art spots. Listen to me and I will give you some tips.
Street art, stencils, and graffiti. Melbourne has some of the best locations to see this exciting but often transient art form! The main lane-way to visit is Hosier Lane, with a veritable smorgasbord of street art on every surface. Of course there are many more spots in Melbourne, just about every time you turn out of a main city street into a back street you are greeted with new and colourful eye candy. Keep your eyes peeled for art above as well, from overpasses to city billboards.
I myself like cleverly executed stencils but there are some incredible free-hand artworks covering entire building fronts in Hosier Lane. Whatever your taste in street-art is, you won’t be disappointed when you visit Melbourne.
The biggest travel tip of all for those seeking street art in Melbourne? Don’t forget to bring your camera (or cameras)! I used a Lomo LCA+ to capture these examples, but just about anything that takes film will do!
