A White X-mas for Someone Used to Beach X-mas!

One might think about White Christmas as the only kind of Christmas there is. But for us Brazillians, that's only something you see in the movies!

Knowing that the summer was only starting, my boyfriend and I decided to spend our holiday break in NYC!
It would be a great chance to take a break from the heat and have a very different Christmas, a white one!
(For those who don’t know, we don’t have snow in Brazil, EVER! So, if you see an adult tourist acting like a child at the smallest sight of any white thing falling from the sky, it’s probably a Brazilian!)

So, we packed our analogues (Fisheye, Actionsampler, Pentax) and added a brand new Diana f+, bought in our first stop in NYC!

Many might think that getting snowed in, having to walk through all that ice etc. would be a negative point in the trip. But for us tropical kids, it was a blast! We had the best time walking through Central Park between all that white.

Actually, the snow only came a day after Christmas, but at least we got to enjoy some of it!
We had to come back to our killing extra-hot weather (January, February are though months) but at least we got these pics to cool down with!

In 2009, Neil Krug uploaded a commercial for Pulp Art Book on Youtube. In the comments section someone asked, “Does anyone know what kind of camera he uses or how he gets his pictures to look the way they do?” Krug was on to something. He did something wildly intriguing, one that looked to have a secret formula.

12 Months, 12 Projects: March Of Caffenol

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.

    Celeste Ortiz: Analog Possibilities

Photography has been described as a time-stopping device, something that “freezes” an action. This moment on-pause is the most salient; all conversation about the picture will tend to pin down the beauty of that second. Celeste Ortiz’s photos make us think of something else. A sense of continuation.

Photo Stories: Kīlauea - Volcanic Eruption by russellmcbride

Venturing into an area when there's volcanic activity is a feat that can only be either courageous or foolish. One thing's for sure, though, it's the kind of experience that not many people share and—should one escape unscathed, like russellmcbride and his friend—a highly rewarding one at that.

The Phobia Post: Fear of Solitude

It is possible to fear solitude. But of its many forms, I only fear the kind that goes unnoticed, the one you cannot share with other people. Photography, with its end goal of being seen, helps ease this kind of solitude.

When someone asks me why I love Burkina Faso so much and what's so special about it, I answer without any hesitation: the people. There's something in this country that connects the people together very strongly. Here, foreign visitors are warmly welcomed. And honestly, I think that the portraits I'm most proud of and that I really love are those shot in Burkina Faso. "Why," you ask?
