My Beginning With Lomography

4

After my friend gave me a Fisheye camera, I began to use it to capture my daily life. Now with the new LC-A+, life will become even more fantastic.

My first camera was the Fisheye , a birthday present from a friend. Although it doesn’t have the double exposure function found in the Fisheye 2, I still love to take it with me when I go on holiday in order to capture the scenes whenever I want.

After playing around with the Fisheye , the camera which I wanted initially was a Holga . However, after reading about the LC-A+ and seeing the photos of this camera from fellow lomographers, I realise I love the vignettes which can be captured with this camera. The photos captured on this camera are also closer to real life and so I figured that it would be more suitable for taking photos daily. Therefore, when I held the LC-A+ with my hands for the first time, I cannot describe how excited I felt. Although finding the right focus is still a problem for me when using this camera, I guess I will be able to master it with further practice. Your valuable advice on how to use this camera will be much appreciated!

Below are some photos which I took with my Fisheye and Fisheye 2 . I really love the effect of double exposure. Don’t think, just shoot!

I posted this on Saturday but it's relevant to this topic.

Way back in 2005 I bought a Holga from the Lomography online store. When it arrived I was a little bit excited. The first time I used it was when I went to visit my parents and I used most of the roll taking shots of my Mum. She'd been ill for a while and felt very low. In my armchair psychology way, I wanted her to feel that she was still beautiful and more than worthy of a photograph. She passed away the next month.

Things weren't good....to make matters worse a fire broke out in my flat. Everything was destroyed apart from a handful of CD's, the Holga (a little melted, inside it's box), and the film inside. It's still in there, 6 years later. I'd rather pretend that the images are still on it, rather than know for definite that they've been ruined and will never exist.

A Day with the LC-A: From the Bus, Como (My Tribute to Robert Frank)

In 1958 the great photographer Robert Frank took a series of images of New York's street life with a Leica camera from a bus window, as in these series of photos that I took in my city Como with my trusty Lomo LC-A loaded with a Kodak Tri-X film. This is a tribute to a great camera and to a great photographer! Read more after the jump!

Fresh from the Lab: One Roll of Film and the Lubitel 166U

Adi, Ekeu, and I did a lomowalk around downtown Bandung last Saturday, the beginning of November. We planned to use our Lubitel cameras with only one roll of film each. We were inspired by the One Roll of Film Project by four Tokyo-based photographers with their Hasselblad cameras. This is about the one roll of film I shot with the Lubitel 166U, which made me love shooting in medium format even more.

Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.

Reviving An Old Polaroid 1000 Camera

Some time ago, my parents-in-law gave me an old Polaroid camera that they used during my wife's childhood. After some investigation, I found out that Polaroid had stopped making instant film. But the factory in Enschedé, the Netherlands had been taken over by The Impossible Project, so I bought a package of fresh film and gave it a try!

LomoAmigos: The Ting Tings Go Analogue!

The Ting Tings are a musical duo from Manchester who have more pop hits than you can shake a stick at. They are most famous for their 2008 hit "That's Not My Name" which got even the stiffest of people shaking in their seats. The Ting Tings are back with a brand new album called Super Critical. They are big film fanatics (check out their website for proof) so we gave them a Sprocket Rocket Camera and a bunch of film to document their life in sunny IBIZA.

Pushing Boundaries: Multiple Exposing Film Soup

As you may have read in my previous article, I truly fell in love with Lomography when I combined my Fisheye camera with an old Canon AE-1 for magical photographic results. Last summer, I took so many pictures of flowers that it started to become almost boring for me. My waning interest and the coming winter meant that I had to figure out something else to do with my 35mm film.
