I'd Probably Throw the Lomo LC-A at a Bear First (plus a special LC-A offer)

14

I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Brunow Miner – back then editor at JPG, now founder of Pictory and Phoot Camp – briefly some years ago at SXSW and have been following with interest what she's been up to. Read more and take advantage of a 10% discount on all Lomo LC-A cameras.

Photo by Laura Brunow Miner – well, as this photo shows her probably someone else pushed the button, but this is where it’s from (edit: Laura told us who took this photo: Chloe Cooper Jones)

In a recent interview at Levi's Photo Workshop Blog she was asked what chance do a bunch of photographers have if, say, a grizzly bear attacks? Which cameras would you throw at it first?

I’d probably throw the Lomo LC-A at a bear first—heavy and well built, yet compact enough to hopefully lodge somewhere uncomfortable in the bear’s throat.

Personally I would have gone for the Zenit Photo Sniper I guess (believe me: a very heavy camera). So what camera would you use against bears? And don’t forget to check out Pictory (the current theme is Everything’s Bigger in Texas)!

Special Offer: Do you want to arm yourself against grizzly bears? If so, we have a special offer for you: use the checkout code BEAR in our online Shop and get 10% off the Lomo LC-A+ package (and all other packages) – valid until Monday, November 22nd 2010, midnight (central European time).

First I'd try to take a picture of the grizzly, because I do not see bears that often ;) but when he attacks me, I'd punch with the King Check Polaphy on his head, it's big and heavy and he will fall down immediately: www.lomography.nl/homes/shoujoai/albums/1647883-sunday-afte…

I would throw A Zorki 4... weighs a like a brick... it would be a problem, if the bear throws it back though :D

I'd probably throw my FED5B at it. That thing is SOLID metal. I'm sure it would break it's skull on impact. Plus I'm sure the camera would still function even after all that so I could totally take a picture of the bear I just slayed with the camera that slayed it!

I'm no expert on bear attacks, but I'm not sure this camera/weapon idea would work.... I think the trick is to let the bear use your camera to take goofy pictures of his friends wearing your hats and pretending to drive your car. Then promise to print copies and send them back in the mail while you make your get away. Bears are well known for their silly sense of humor and their love of photography . They become enraged when perfectly good cameras get thrown at them and break. I hope this advice saves even one heavy camera from being used in a violent act! Thank you for reading.

Hah, I love this, thanks Markus. And I love my Lomo LCA. But it's obvious to me now that all of your bear answers are better!

P.S. My friend Chloe Cooper Jones took the photo above.

no, not the LCA. its a bit luxurious just to be eaten by a bear. a digital camera is what it deserves.in this way, they'll both die die.
