He inspires me to capture the moment and with his portraits, I totally feel like I’m home.
When I first started taking Lomographs, I was away from the place I grew up, away from the life-long friendships I’ve made and away from my brothers and my family. So I used the shots I took to show them what I was up to and what life was like living hundreds of miles away.
But then when I’d go back to visit, I found myself taking a ton of shots so I can document and remember what life is like to still be there. One of my favorite people to take a portrait of is my nephew, Carmine. Even though he’s just three and a half years old, his style in front of the lens is the same as if there was no camera around. He doesn’t freeze up or pose for the camera, he’s just Carmine. Whether he’s laughing, jumping, crying, or just playing with his toys, the film totally captures his essence.

If you see someone with blue eyes today, he is a descendant of this unlucky fellow. I am one of those weird folks and apart from feeling like a mutant and being Angelina Jolie’s secret sister, I am sensitive to light like an ISO 6,400 film.
