The Kunsthaus was built in 2003 when Graz was European Capital of Culture. It was designed by London architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier and is a very cool futuristic building – in my opinion it looks like a big blue space ship - situated near the river Mur between Südtiroler Platz and Lendkai.

The Kunsthaus was built in 2003 when Graz was European Capital of Culture. It was designed by London architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier and is a very cool futuristic building – in my opinion it looks like a big blue space ship – situated near the river Mur between Südtiroler Platz and Lendkai. The idea was to connect this futuristic form with the historical ambiance around and I have to say that the architects did a great job to translate this idea into reality.

The building has 4 floors called spaces and on top you can find a viewing platform called “The Needle”. From here you have a breathtaking view over the city of Graz. On Space 4 – the ground floor – you can find a modern Cafe to rest your feet. The Kunsthaus presents lots of exhibitions of modern artists the whole year through.

Also the Camera Austria has its home there. Since 1970 Camera Austria deals with photography in context with modern art, media and social developments. When I visited the Kunsthaus sadly this part of exhibition rooms was closed due to structural alteration works.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 6pm
