The Canadian Golden Triangle: Toronto – Burlington – Niagara Falls

This is probably my last Canadian location. You can get here three spots for the price of one, separated by a two-hour triangular drive. Let me share my trip to the Canadian Golden Triangle.

Inspired by panelomo’s post – say goodbye to Singapore, here is my post to say goodbye to Canada. Yes, I’m moving to a new place (which I’ll disclose when I’m already there) en route for new adventures!

Here are hand-processed shots of three spots located next to each other and forming a geographical triangle, that I will call the golden triangle since drugs, gold and nudity are selling arguments, but I didn’t want to play the nudity card. In fact, there aren’t drugs or gold either in this story. I just wanted a selling title.

First is Burlington, a very pretty suburban city, which gave my European stereotyping mind a feeling of the ‘American Dream’: A dad in front of his gigantic house, cutting grass or cleaning his big SUV and his children playing baseball (street hockey, in fact) on the wide streets covered by huge trees. They indeed have very nice trees, including big willow trees:

But there is something special in Burlington.
There is Ribfest! Ribfest is a gigantic pig-eating frenzy, where many multi-award winning stands come from all over North America to compete and fill your mouth with buckets of barbecue sauce, tons of ribs and constellations of fried onions. It’s really something. I almost got sick, but I REALLY enjoyed it! Vegetarians or people who don’t eat pork should skip this gallery. Other piggy lovers – and I know there are a few around – may enjoy these shots…

Second is Niagara Falls. One fifth of the planet’s freshwater supply is now in front of your eyes. One fifth!!! It is a very noisy and truly hypnotic spectacle; you can stay and watch it for hours without getting bored. But don’t turn your back to the falls, because you’ll see all the tacky casinos and hotels that were built all around it, making this natural beauty a slightly less enchanting place. At the top of the ‘Skylon Tower’ you can see the falls and make fun of the tiny American side next to the big Canadian side (encouraged by your Canadian girlfriend). Another cool attraction is the ‘Journey Behind the Falls’ where you walk into the tunnels under the falls and end-up at the feet of the falls, where you’ll be happily soaked.

And last, but not least is Toronto or ‘T-dot’ as they call it. This city was unknown to me and I think it is now in my Top 10 Best Cities list. I can’t really tell much about it, and people from there would say it better, but I loved every bit of this ‘Canadian Big Apple’. Yeah, it really made me think of New York in some ways – a fantastic Chinatown, insane skyscrapers that look like gigantic shiny jewels, a nice central train station and yummy, dirty street food. I adored it! Two things I recommend are: climb to the top of the CN Tower and go watch a Blue Jays baseball game at the Rogers Centre.

Well that’s pretty much it.

So, goodbye Canada, and thanks for everything! You were an incredibly nice country, filled with lovely people, and gave me so much that I can’t express my gratitude enough. I will always keep you in my heart
