Double Exposures with the Spinner 360 and another Camera

Creating double exposures with the Spinner 360 is easy and fun.

My favorite Lomographic photos are double exposures. They embody the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography and can result in some beautiful, happy accidents. So I couldn’t wait to shoot doubles with my Spinner 360. My very first roll on the Spinner was a roll of doubles, shot over pictures taken with a Lomo LC-A+. This tipster is super easy because you don’t have to modify your camera and you don’t need any tools.

What you will need.
1. A Spinner 360, amazingly enough.
2. Another camera
3. One (1) roll of 35mm film.

The first thing you want to do is shoot a roll on the other camera. I used and LC-A+ and 200 iso film, setting the iso on the LC-A+ to 400. I tried to get as close to the subject as possible, be it flowers, friends, strangers, statues. I tried to take pics of textures and bold colors. The first roll should be shot at arm’s length from the subject.

Rewind the film until it just stops, so that it doesn’t go all the way back into the canister. You want to make sure the film leader is still sticking out. It’s easier than it sounds.

I then reloaded the film in the Spinner and set the exposure to the cloudy setting. That may have overexposed the shots a bit but it worked out fine.

Shooting big expanses of bright sky or grey/white concrete will tend to obliterate the underlying images, which may not be what you want. Although the Spinner loves the big sky.

The goal is not to think too much, anyway. Let the camera do the talking and you might get some cool unexpected results, like the flowers covering my friend Linda in one of the shots below, or James Dean floating around Downtown LA like some bronze ghost.
