LomoAmigo drudolph Shoots With the Diana Mini

3

We've got a new Lomo Amigo to introduce to you guys! Davy Rudolph is a graphic designer who shoots weddings on the side with his wife. We introduce Davy to the magic of the Diana Mini and he shoots up quite a number of amazing images!

Name: Davy Rudolph
City: Indianapolis
Country: USA

Will you tell the community a little bit about yourself? What kind of things do you like getting up to and why?

Well, I currently live in Indianapolis, Indiana with my amazing wife Tara and my two kids. Professionally, I’m a graphic designer with a focus on web design and I also shoot weddings and live shows with my wife.
I love my family so much. They’re reason enough to wake up everyday.

How long have you been a Lomographer (or are you new to this whole thing)?

I’ve been into Lomography since 2007 when I discovered the Diana +. I fell in love with it instantly and have been adding to my Lomo camera collection ever since. Shooting with Lomo camera’s actually got me so interested in photography that I started doing it professionally. It’s been quite a learning experience.

Describe the Diana Mini in five words.

The perfect little toy camera

Looks like our wife is also into analogue photography. Is Lomography something you got interested in together and do together?

She became my pet project after I started. I loved it and I knew she would too, so I would constantly try to get her to shoot with me and eventually she became a better photographer than me. Funny how that works. You can check out her “flickr”:http://www.flickr.com/photos/trudolph/

Why do you choose to document your family and kid’s childhood with analogue? Well, one of the rules of Lomography is to carry your camera everywhere. And I do. I always carry my LCA+ and Diana Mini with me. Plus, we always want to catch the specials moments in their lives. That way we can have something to look back on and they can have something as well. And what better way than with film? My kids are unique so I want the pictures I take of them to be as well. Beats using a little digital point-&-shoot any day.

The strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had?

I would have to say the best Lomographic moment was being picked as a Lubitel lover. It’s still pretty incredible to open up the “Love a waist level” book and see my shots.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).

  • “Re: Stacks” by Bon Iver
  • “The Mighty Rio Grande” by This Will Destroy You
  • “Written in Reverse” by Spoon

If you could pack up with Diana Mini to shoot your heart out anywhere in the world where would you go?

New York City

Any interesting plans coming up that the community should look out for?

Some interesting things are happening in my life right now, so we’ll see if they shake out. If they do happen you’ll definitely be seeing some photos about it. You can also follow my blog to see new shots and other awesome design related things.

Your advice to future Diana Mini shooters is…

No matter how inconvenient, take your camera everywhere. Beauty will always be in front of you.

Caleb Savage: Into the Darkroom, Out in the Open

When asked to recall the moment they first became truly interested in photography, most photographers would remember the magical feeling of picking up a hand-me-down or secondhand camera, the thrill of shooting an entire roll through, and the elation upon seeing and holding their first ever set of photographs. Caleb Savage, however, had quite a unique experience. At 10 years old, he had his first taste of working in the darkroom making prints at Boy Scout camp, thereby beginning a more than a decade-long affinity with photography.
