Close to one of the most touristic spots in Puerto Rico, is one of its biggest and beautiful coast line beaches: Piñones. Get ready for a real Puerto Rican summer treat. The words 'alcapurria, bacalaíto, pastel, empanadilla, relleno, and pincho' probably don't mean much to you. But in Puerto Rico, they are the heart of beach snacks.
Technically they are turnovers and fritters filled with meat and vegetable, and Piñones is where you’ll find the best and the biggest.
Located in the town of Carolina, a few minutes after of the large public beach in Carolina, during a beautiful scenic drive, you’ll find all the roadside eateries. Then all you need to do is find a parking space, get down all your beach gear, and start walking around.
Apart from the delicious food around the beach, you’ll come across a natural pool almost a mile long, which is formed by an offshore rock ledge, where most of the locals decide to bathe with their families in the tranquil shallow waters.
This beach may not be the best for swimming because of the rock ledges, but you it’s great for tanning, fishing, and having a few drinks and snacks with your friends. You can also rent Mountain Bikes, and ride along a six mile paved bike path enjoying the stunning coast line views.
A few tips and warnings though: This area is not very safe at night, so be sure to not be alone on the beach, and there’s also not much shade around during the day, so be sure to bring your own protection from the sun.
