Photographer Jenna Gang shoots with the Diana F+

Jenna Gang, a New York City based photographer, took the Diana F+ out for a multiple exposure spin!

Name Jenna Gang aka GANG photography
Country USA
City New York City

How long have you been a Lomographer?
3 Months.

How did you get into it?
Dave Ortiz , a fellow Lomographer, told me about the program and recommended that I try it. I’m so glad he did because it’s been a great experience.

Can you describe the Diana F+ in 5 words?
Great camera with endless possibilities.

What do you like best about Lomography?
I love that the camera is light weight. I take it with me where ever I go. It’s absolutely perfect for an impromptu shot.

Which of the golden rules do you follow the most, are there any that you ignore?
I have no rules, just shoot and keep shooting.
(ed. looks like Jenna follows the 10 Golden Rules without even realizing it!)

So where were you when you took your Diana F+ photos for this project?
It looks like you had quite a journey. I was in Israel for most of the images. I spent almost the entire month of June there with the Birthright Foundation and visiting family. I received so many compliments about the camera, and a few people even tried taking it from me. The rest of the images were taken in New Jersey, Maryland, and New York City.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, which would they be? (title, artist please)
Jerusalem by Matisyahu
I Wish by Stevie Wonder
Not Over You by Chester French

The one person (living or deceased) who you would most like to photograph and why.
My Opa (grandfather) because I never had the chance to truly say goodbye. Just one image would help me never forget him.

You create really beautiful double-exposures, with layers of interest; is there a method to this multiple exposure madness, or are they all happy accidents?
Yes, there is a method to my madness. I am always fine tuning my style. I find my main subject and then walk around for hours or even days to create the rest of the story. In some, I try to impose a political view or tell a specific story. In all, I strive to create a beautiful image that is soothing and easy to look at.

What’s your favorite photo you took with the Diana F+ and why?
By far my favorite image is the Israeli flag with the flowers in the background. I remember seeing the flag from afar and the rest just simply fell into place. I hope Israel can have peace one day.

What’s the strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had?
Realizing, but never really knowing, what photographic image my Diana F+ camera will produce. The best part of my day is getting the photos from it.

What inspires your Lomographs? Do your Lomographs inspire you?
Light inspires me. I love how objects transform during different times of the day or season.

If you had a big bag of film, a plane ticket and a Diana camera, where would you go, what would you shoot and why?
Israel. I felt very comfortable there, like I was at home. The country was beautiful, I would love to explore more of it. I felt so inspired that I hardly put my camera down.

Any words of advice can you give other Lomographers?
Keep a camera with you at all times. You never know when a possible shot will happen.

A Day with the LC-A: From the Bus, Como (My Tribute to Robert Frank)

In 1958 the great photographer Robert Frank took a series of images of New York's street life with a Leica camera from a bus window, as in these series of photos that I took in my city Como with my trusty Lomo LC-A loaded with a Kodak Tri-X film. This is a tribute to a great camera and to a great photographer! Read more after the jump!
