Photokina - The Future is Analogue - September 23-28, Cologne, Germany

10

For the fifth time we are invited to present the world of Lomography at the Photokina 2008 in Cologne, Germany. This year we have chosen the theme "The Future is Analogue" both, as a statement of our belief in an analogue future, and a celebration of the unique creative film use coming directly from the one million + Lomographers, who devote themselves to creative analogue photography, embrace analogue lifestyle, and who are the very core of who we The Lomographic Society International are. This opens up a visual dialogue upon which a base for discussion and development is made.

For the fifth time we are invited to present the world of Lomography at the Photokina 2008 in Cologne, Germany. This year we have chosen the theme “The Future is Analogue” both, as a statement of our belief in an analogue future, and a celebration of the unique creative film use coming directly from the one million + Lomographers, who devote themselves to creative analogue photography, embrace analogue lifestyle, and who are the very core of who we The Lomographic Society International are. This opens up a visual dialogue upon which a base for discussion and development is made.

The worldwide Lomography online survey & photo competition

To achieve an insight into the Lomographic community’s subconscious associations to “analogue”, we created a poll on this subject. We wanted to know what Lomographers associate with the terms analogue and digital, how they think about themselves and the way they consider the future. We will be presenting the upshot and the effects of thess Lomographers’ voice at the Photokina. Following the survey and inspired by its results, Lomographers were called on to submit their images to a worldwide online competition.

The gigantic LomoWall – with 100,000 analogue photo prints by Lomographers

The submitted images of the Lomographers’ individual approaches and examples of the analogue essence, the capabilities of their analogue tools, the wide spectrum of their experiments with film and light, and their vision for the analogue future were then used to create the exhibition that will be presented at the Photokina.

The huge LomoWall, featuring 100,000 film photo-prints by Lomographers from all over the world, will be sprawling all over the space of the Lomography world at the Photokina. The LomoWall is just the start.

The Lomography Analogue Lounge – with live music and a LomoBar,
with workshops, speeches and talks with experts on
Lomography and on analogue life

The Lomography Analogue Lounge spread out over a 500 sq. metre central space on the fair’s grounds will feature in addition to the LomoWall exhibition, a plethora of analogue programmes. Visitors can participate for free in workshops for both novice and more experienced shooters. Be it about medium format photography, multi lens cameras, the Camera Obscura, or discovering the wonders of cross processing, play-offs with light or trials with real film, exploration of panoramic perspectives or analogue body transformation – the Lomography Lounge will be the area dedicated to the world of analogue photography and lifestyle.

Speeches and talks International Lomographic experts, fascinating individuals with dynamic cultural and artistic backgrounds, – all those of great love, passion and knowledge for the world of analogue – are free to the public. From the exposure to digital characteristics of the past and philosophies on analogue love, to the Diana Dialogues – our special guests are devout narrators of the analogue perspective.

The Lounge also offers a complete insight into the latest projects and products in the Lomography world, and serves as a meeting-point and chill-out area before, during and after rummaging through the array of activities and workshops the fair has to offer. Every sundown from 5 PM to 8 PM great live bands from Balkan music to jazz and The Lomography DJ marathon with invited artists of vinyl perfection will provide grooves and moves for Lomographers and those affiliated. Austrian wine and (of course) Russian vodka for everybody will guarantee full determent from boredom while the live sounds will shake more than just a leg. Personal talks with friends and family of Lomography are also thrown into the deal!

Just a heads up. On this page: www.lomography.com/photokina/photokina
In this paragraph: "Life, warmth, beauty, durability, and excitement are some of the notions which a vast majority of Lomographers definitely consider to be clearly. Contra wise, the concepts of fast, automatic, convenient, efficient, fake/copy and mobile are predominantly understood as being digital."
You left out the word analogue, as in 'definitely consider to be to clearly *analogue*'.

The New Lomography Petzval Lens is, without a doubt, a striking innovation that has impressed analogue and digital shooters alike. The Petzval works seamlessly with both platforms, producing exceptional and oftentimes dreamy, bokeh-rich images. There are, however, photographers who prefer to shoot analogue and are oblivious to the lure of digital imagery. Here are a few photographers who have chosen film as their go-to medium, and and the Petzval as their ally.
