Burbiskiai Estate

This place fell into my mind when I was little - my grandmother told me her youth story about, how did she go to that times (around 1940-ties) discos. Yes, of course - no DJs, no house or RnB remixes - just simple plain countryside's music festival every weekend. People were gathering there from all of the region - my grandmother herself had to walk about 9 km to this place and then come back home (no taxis, mind that!). So when I grew up, I did finally go there. It's in the north part of Lithuania, just between to big cities Siauliai and Panevezys. The small town Radviliskis is the nearest to this place, so if you go the main road towards Panevezys you will find a brown sign with "Burbiskio Dvaro sodyba" ("Burbiskiai Estate Gardens").

Park your car and go into the park. What you will find is very nice – million of little islands, because the lake is made like that. You can go whatever the direction you want – thousands of little bridges lead you to a “two-place” island, where there’s a dead end, so you have to get back and so on. The good thing – this place is very romantic, so I do think my grandmother did have her first kiss here in one of those islands. J Anyway, the Burbiskiai Estate has got a museum inside of the main building and a huge garden, full of flowers!!! It looks like a little place of Holland in Lithuania – millions of different types of tulips and other plants. Go there during the summertime and you will get the opportunity to make the most colorful shots, or even doubles as I did.

The address:
Burbiškio km., Pakalniškės, Radviliškio rajonas

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

The World According to Herr Willie: Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

Singapore, like Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, is a likely stopover when you fly far. The city is a tiny urbanized hub but it's very favorable if you know some high-spirited locals. I was lucky to hook up with king kimbo (@hakimbo), who showed me around. He took my lame limbs to the Gardens by the Bay, an amazing place which was visually striking. I was hugging some artificial trees there when I found a baby—a very big baby.

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.

Falling In Love With The LC-A 120

There are quite a few perks that come with working for a film photography company, and the best perk of all is testing out the latest cameras. I can remember buying my LC-A back in 2009 and being really inspired to shoot film again. When the LC-A 120 came along, I couldn't wait to try it out around London. Join me as I test out this super medium format beauty.

The World According to Herr Willie: Ilha de Marajó

Brazil is an awesome country for traveling. There's so much to explore, each place very different from one another. It will definitely take a stretch of trips just to get to know this this South American pearl. I finished my copa tour last year in Marajó, the island of bulls—it just might be an eternal highlight for me.

My New York City Bike Ride Through Purple Eyes

What do you do when you don't have much time in a city like New York but you want to see everything, feel the vibe and be part of the community, even for a short time? Jump on a bike and enjoy what trains, buses and cabs can never give you: be part of the city. Take a camera with you to capture the moments and sights you don't want to forget. 12 Months, 12 Projects: March Of Caffenol

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.
