Holiday Communism

3

What suits a Russian camera better than a few days of holiday communism? Join me as I celebrate in Germany a festival of tolerance and homogeneity. All people from all walks of life, with different tastes and interests, flock here to have the time of their life!

What is holiday communism? Its s temporal parallel-society, free of necessities and controls.
At least that’s what the organizers have in mind for the annual Fusion-Festival which is coined by the spirit of tolerance and should be free of sponsorships, advertisements and political intentions.

The festival, which was originally held in a small manner in 2003 on a former military airbase in Lärz (near Röbel/Müritz), has become a massive event with more than 50.000 people attending. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Punk, Raver, Rastafari, Goafan, Indie or Rocker – almost every imaginable (sub) – culture is present, which can also be noticed when looking at the Line Up.

The festival is brilliant not only in musical terms: there are loads of spacious and bizarre motives for the Lomographer’s desire. From the vehicles that remind you of the Mad Max-films and the colorful decoration to the partying masses – the sensations have been overwhelming each year.

To my mind the holiday communism is a perfect mix of cabaret, rave, carnival, live concerts, cinema and apocalyptic sentiment – as if only those of us survived the nuclear war who partied the hardest.

    Fresh from the Lab: 1990

A weekend without a lomowalk seems bad, at least for me. One Saturday morning, I decided to join my friends in their lomowalk. It was all cloudy at first but it didn't stop me from going out and walking. I brought my new Nikon FM2 and some expired rolls, just to test my camera. Was it just me being sleepy, or was my Nikon FM2 acting up? My photos turned out grainy, pale, and, in my opinion, looking so 1990s?

The people of a city, to me, speak volumes about its culture and sense of community. And that is why I sought out the people who make Denver that much more interesting after the initial period of settling down. My search lead to a few establishments that have contributed to making Denver what it is today. In the second story on Transient Living, I present to you two of such establishments: The Craftsman & Apprentice, and A Small Print Shop.

LomoAmigos: The Ting Tings Go Analogue!

The Ting Tings are a musical duo from Manchester who have more pop hits than you can shake a stick at. They are most famous for their 2008 hit "That's Not My Name" which got even the stiffest of people shaking in their seats. The Ting Tings are back with a brand new album called Super Critical. They are big film fanatics (check out their website for proof) so we gave them a Sprocket Rocket Camera and a bunch of film to document their life in sunny IBIZA.

My Day in Analogue: Lazy Summer Days at Home

Every summer, my soul screams for a lazy, hot day back at my parents' home, for some good food, relaxation, and catching up with childhood friends. This year is no different, so I went back down to my small hometown in the very northeast of Belgium to enjoy a perfect laid back day doing nothing and everything. And of course, I brought my analogue cameras along to eternalize all of these small but grand moments in life.
