Intramuros

What Art Can Learn from the Banal

Stephen Shore introduced to the 70s art world an unadorned image of American life. He captured littered restaurant tables as other photographers would immaculate vistas. For the opening of “American Surfaces”, he even taped unframed snapshots on gallery walls. In these videos, Shore talks about objects that have “no pretention to art” and the things he learned from Andy Warhol.

Fresh From the Lab: Take Off Your Socks and Shoes - It's Summertime!

Every year, just a few weeks before summer, I dedicate a series of photos to the joy of living outdoors in this good season. One of the most common pleasures is taking one's socks and shoes off to feel the first warm rays of sun on our pale feet, which were prisoners inside shoes throughout the long winter season. So, it's time to take off your socks and shoes and relax barefoot! Where? Of course, on the walls surrounding the beautiful lake! Take a look!

A Salute to the Masters: Unstuck Posters (A Tribute to Aaron Siskind)

After writing a series of articles dedicated to arguably some of the greatest street photographers, this time I wrote one dedicated to the American abstract expressionist artist Aaron Siskind - a master of immortalizing details of nature, body parts and architecture, as well as walls and objects found in the streets - and his series of photographs of unstuck posters.

Pushing Boundaries: So I Heard You Like Multiple Exposures

My name is Amber Valentine and I have a confession to make: I’m not really a photographer. I have a website full of photographs, a bookshelf full of cameras, film waiting to be developed, and a wall full of framed pictures I’ve taken. Even so, I don’t really consider myself a photographer per se. I think that Lomography is more about the experimentation and the fun of film than it is about the photography, and that experimentation is part of the reason I have embraced Lomography so.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Invites Visitors to Touch and Photograph Outdoor Art

Museums and galleries often bear the sign "Please do not touch the art." Jeppe Hein's outdoor sculpture in Brooklyn Bridge Park does just the opposite.
