The Second largest city in Sabah, Sandakan is known to be very ecotourism friendly as the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, Turtle Islands Park and Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary are all situated in Sandakan.
At the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, one gets to see many wild orang utan swinging out from the tropical forest during the feeding time at 10am and 3pm daily.
Also, being very near to the sea, it means that Sandakan is offering a wide selection of fresh and cheap seafood for those who are craving for seafood, at a local fishing village, Kampung Buli Sim Sim.
There are many local Chinese who lives in Sandakan. Thus a fiery red and gold temple, the Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple which overlooks the town centre was built and completed in year 1987.
In Sabah, most of the Chinese speak Hakka in their daily conversations. Hakka is a very well-spoken Chinese Dialect in the Chinese community, after Cantonese and Hokkien.
Me myself, being very proud, is a Hakka girl, and could speak Hakka too. :)
It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.
Ever since it opened in the '60s the Jigokudani Yaenkoen park in Nagano Prefecture, Japan has been visited by people from all over the world to observe the famous snow monkeys, or the Japanese Macaque. Lomographer ihave2pillows had the wonderful opportunity to see the snow monkeys up close a couple of years ago, and here are some of the photographs that he had shared with the community.
Berlin is the capital and largest city of Germany. With its 3.5 million residents, it is also the second largest city in the European Union. Berlin has a lot to offer when it comes to culture as there are so many people from many different countries living and working together. Of course, Berlin is also home of Lomography Germany!
How early can photography be taught? After some lessons on visual expression, the Museum of the City of New York had second to fifth grade students traipsing around Central Park and Museum Mile with a camera.
Singapore, like Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, is a likely stopover when you fly far. The city is a tiny urbanized hub but it's very favorable if you know some high-spirited locals. I was lucky to hook up with king kimbo (@hakimbo), who showed me around. He took my lame limbs to the Gardens by the Bay, an amazing place which was visually striking. I was hugging some artificial trees there when I found a baby—a very big baby.
For the last year we've been working on the next version of Lomography. We based our work on the feedback you’ve given us over the years and we wanted to share it as early as possible with you and can’t wait to hear what you think. Just one warning first: it is still in development and things can break. All the photos, comments, likes, homes and everything else were transferred as of October 16th, 2014. So anything you do on next.lomography.com won't be reflected on www.lomography.com and vice versa. Once we are done with testing, everything you did here will be deleted again. So this is a big playground for you to explore.
When a truly fascinating photograph hits you, it’s powerful enough to transport you to the story that is being told in that image. Such is what happens when one sees Suji Park's work for the first time. It’s as if you can actually hear and feel the details of each snapshot — the warmth of a late afternoon sun, the complex silence of nature or a dry and nostalgic solitude.

The people of a city, to me, speak volumes about its culture and sense of community. And that is why I sought out the people who make Denver that much more interesting after the initial period of settling down. My search lead to a few establishments that have contributed to making Denver what it is today. In the second story on Transient Living, I present to you two of such establishments: The Craftsman & Apprentice, and A Small Print Shop.
