Scuba Diving in Grand Turks

5

I recently went on a family trip to Grand Turks and scuba dived with my precious LOMO LC-A+. Just when I thought the underwater world couldnt get better, the LC-A+ and the trusty Krab pull me in and gave me some very nice surprises!

My mom hates anything scary. Last time we went on a family holiday, my dad, brother, and I went scuba diving in Cuba and she did a serious half hour of crying. So after that we tried to take turns doing anything fun so she wouldn’t be all alone.

When i got my LC-A+ and bought it bundled together with the Krab and the Instant Back I knew (well, I thought) that the oportunities to use it would be slim, but well worth it. So then a couple of months later we were on our way to a cruise through the Caribbean and I knew this was my chance to scare my mom, and mix two of my favorite things: scuba diving and photography.

So there we were, my dad and I in the island of Grand Turks ready to go deep down.
I bought some iso800 film to make sure i got exposure, but with the crystal clear water, the red light didn’t dare to flash once. I cannot describe the experience of being underwater, of feeling like a big fish. Weightless, mute, and anonymous. Nothing else mattered, nothing else made a sound but the bubbles of air swimming afloat. I was there, and i had my camera to prove it.

I decided to set the focal distance to 1.5, something i will change the next time: i realized that the bigger the object in frame, the more interesting the picture, so by setting it to 0.8 i would be able to get closer.
So then my favorite shots turned out to be those of my dad, and some submarine plants. Maybe next time i will go diving where big fish await. Maybe next time i will put some red scale film to see what happens. The underwater world is fantastic, and i never thought it could be better, until i went analog. Oh my poor mother…

Spinner 360: Pull the Cord and Let the Magic Happen!

The story between the Spinner 360 and I goes way back to the year 2010, when Lomography decided to send me a beta model of the Spinner 360 to test. It was a complete surprise! I thought, "What the hell is that?" as I first took this camera out of the package. Then, when my little brother grabbed it from me and pulled the cord, it buzzed and turned 360°! We all had the same expression: "Whoa..."

My Day in Analogue: Lazy Summer Days at Home

Every summer, my soul screams for a lazy, hot day back at my parents' home, for some good food, relaxation, and catching up with childhood friends. This year is no different, so I went back down to my small hometown in the very northeast of Belgium to enjoy a perfect laid back day doing nothing and everything.
