Lomogon Art Lens: First Impressions by Raymond Chin

Raymond Chin, also known in the Community as raywychin, is a photographer based in Hong Kong. Here, he shares his first impressions of the Lomogon 2.5/32 Art Lens.

Hello! Tell us a bit about your photography background.

I first started with film photography because of the LC-A 4 years ago. I now mainly focus on taking portraits.

What would you call your photography style?

My style is to capture the most genuine side of my subject.

What was your first impression upon seeing and holding the Lomogon Art Lens?

The Lomogon actually has a similar outlook with previous art lenses. The familiar golden brass body with a very special aperture system, this unique design has given me a strong impression.

How does the Lomogon Art Lens fit into your (photography) style?

The vignette effect is perfect for my artistic creation. I could only do the zone focus manually with the LC-A. However, with the Lomogon, not only it has all the qualities of LC-A, but it can also be used on SLR cameras for more precise focusing.

Any pointers that one should keep in mind when using the Lomogon Art Lens?

For me, I think photographers can make use of the vignette and lens flare in the composition when using the Lomogon. Using all sorts of lights, for example, the natural lighting from the sun or backlight. This way of shooting allows the light to go directly into the lens and makes the photos look more dreamy, warm and cozy.
