Unforgettable Bachelor Party...TUBING down the Guadalupe River

4

Being the best man is a lot of work where I come from. Planning a wedding is stressful for a groom and the purpose of the bachelor party is to relieve that stress. There is nothing that time with friends and beer can't fix.

When I found out that my best friend of 24 years was getting married I was very excited for him. As he started planning the wedding with his future bride I could tell be was troubled. Being the good friend (and best man) that I am I knew that I had to get his mind off all of that…… well, girl wedding crap that every man will get put through at some point in his life! Only one thing to do……… ROAD TRIP!!!!! Guadalupe River here we come!

The most popular part of the Guadalupe River is north west of New Braunfels, Texas, near the city of Gruene (pronounced Green). A bend in river called the Horse shoe Loop. It crosses the main road twice only 1/8 of a mile apart from each other. Rent a tube from one of the many tube renters on the river, start out at the first crossing and float on the river for an hour, get out at the second crossing and walk back to the first crossing and start over. You can go past the second crossing and float for 2 more hours and a bus will pick you up and take you back to where you started.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, the water is 58 degrees year round. It was 95 degrees outside with a heat index of 105 degrees that day. Its like jumping into a pool filled with ice. Though it is refreshing on a hot day it is a little too cold to be submerged in the water all day long. An occasional splash from the top of your tube is refreshing enough.

There are some beautiful rocky cliffs along the way. Get out you camera and have fun. Most places have a rocky shore you can get out on, play some music, and party. Lots of half dressed girls and guys having great fun. If it is surely not hard to get some good lomographs here.
Some things you will need to bring:
*Beer
*Sunscreen
*Ice chest for Beer
*Water
*Water proof camera or Housing like the Krab for LOMO LC-A
*Slower film like Ektachrome 64 for bright sunny days
*Friends to drink Beer with
*Did I say Beer?

After spending time with all the drunken, sun burnt people on the river (I myself is one), you can find the nearest food chain restaurant and/or shop at the Tanger Oulet north of New Braunfels. Seems like there are over 200 stores in a 1/4 miles radius there. Either way, a trip down the Guadalupe River is going be one you will remember for the rest of your life.

Just don’t forget to wear SUNSCREEN like this guy did!!!

There is nothing than a photo shot at the perfect moment. Henri Cartier Bresson's principle on "The Decisive Moment" is a principle that we should still follow to this day. A perfectly-timed photo creates impact, whether it's one of a friend jumping into the pool or a couple emerging from the ceremony on their wedding day. For this rumble, we want to see that breathtaking moment, shot at the perfect time.

    Giles Clement: The Wayfaring Tintyper

Reminiscent of traveling photographers of the 19th century, Giles Clement tours through the country with his assistant, Zeiss (an Irish Terrier), offering everything from portrait sessions to wildly creative photographic projects for magazines and companies. And although his mode of transportation may have evolved with the times, his photographic method and gear have changed very little compared to the photographers of days past. Now, with over 3 years of tintyping experience under his belt and an impressive list of clients, he's carved a name out for himself as an accomplished tintyper and continues to spread his passion for this ages-old technique everywhere he goes.
