At the heart of the ever-busy streets of Tsim Sha Tsui lies a quiet oasis, a breath of fresh air, named Kowloon Park. This vast public park used to be the site of a British military camp. Now, it is a famous recreational area for both locals and tourists any day of the week.

Kowloon Park provides several facilities for recreational activities for kids and oldies alike. There’s so much to be enjoyed in this urban park. There are playgrounds, Chinese gardens, water fountains, sculptures, chess tables and swimming pools. Free performances like traditional martial arts, lion and dragon dance, etc. are also staged every Sunday in the Sculpture Walk.

But what I like the most about the park is its lush greenery. The entire area is enveloped with lots of trees, plants and flowers. There are Zen-inspired gardens and landscaped pools where turtles, sparrows and pink flamingos live tranquilly. The man-made Bird Lake is a sanctuary to a wide variety of waterfowl and bird species.

Kowloon is such a perfect hideaway for those who you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of Tsim Sha Tsui. It can be easily accessed via MTR. Simply board at the Tsim Sha Tsui Station then take the Exit A1.

Finding Humanity in the Streets with Soomin Yim

Stop bath is a type of chemical used in the darkroom for processing black and white film, aptly named as such because it halts the development of the images. In this case, stop bath is also part of the title that Korean analogue street photographer Soomin Yim has given her body of work, "Stop Bath the City," to represent the forgotten faces of people in the city amid rapid modernization, captured and immortalized on black and white film.
