In this exclusive interview, he talks about his personal work and shares a few analog tips.
Hello Francesc. Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hola! I am Spanish but London based. I came here three years ago after living, working and enjoying in cities as Barcelona, Madrid and Seville although I was born and raised in Elche at the South-East of Spain. That is why I feel 100% Mediterranean. I love everything related to the process of creating and experimenting whether through music, photography, illustration or video. Maybe this is the reason why I work as a creative in advertising. Advertising gives me the chance to work simultaneously in all of these fields. However, I am always trying to do personal projects. It is my way to feeling completely free without any timings, clients or products to sell. Here is where Lomography plays a big role for me.
Why do love shooting with film?
Because it gives me freedom to explore, create something unique and with an end result that almost is never expected, which makes it very special indeed. I know there are a lot of discussions about film vs digital. I do like them both nevertheless film for me has the surprise factor.
What inspired these dianarama photos?
To be honest it all started as a mistake because I wanted to capture something different but when I saw the result it reminded me of Alexey Brodovitch and Ian Hornak, then I decided to keep going and make more and more. It all began in San Francisco, so I thought: Maybe I can try to do the same in every city I visit. See more dianaramas here.
Do you have any tips for anyone who wants to try this technique?
First of all, don’t be afraid to fail. You can try with five exposures at the beginning. I always try to get 25/30 overlapped exposures in the same film therefore
I have failed too many times. Second is about the light. You should try to do it in one day, or with the same lighting conditions. Third don’t think too much about every shot, just click!
Do you have any more film photography projects planned?
Yes I do. One called “UpSide Down” which is basically about double exposures, and another one which will combine film photography and music.
