Hi, Kevin! Could you please briefly introduce yourself to the Lomography Community?

Halo! I am Kevin from Hong Kong. I am a freelance photographer. I am crazy about photography, and I like films and books, too.

What is your favorite subject in photography?

I usually shoot photos of my girlfriend at my leisure time. That is surely my favorite! Other than that, I like shooting portraits, wedding events, and street snaps, too.

How did you get into photography? How would you describe your pieces?

I started taking photos when I was in school, documenting my own life. I usually utilize natural lighting and colors to tell the story and the emotion of the photo. I like capturing the moment in different aspects of life, too.

Why did you want to give the Petzval Art Lens a try?

I have been following the Petzval lens ever since it called for funding on Kickstarter. I was attracted by its golden body and its magnificent swirly bokeh. And 85mm lens is the best for shooting portraits. I was given a chance to try it when my friend brought it to the outing, and I was immediately addicted to it! I am very sure that this is the lens I want.

What’s your favorite thing about the Petzval?

My favorite thing about the Petzval is its optics. It is entirely different from what we have known in modern days. I also like its iconic swirly bokeh, the color saturation, and the its elegant, golden body.

How did you feel when you had finally received your Petzval Lens?

I was so excited when I received the Petzval lens. I found unpacking it a great pleasure, not to mention [seeing] its incredible golden body! I think most people who own the Petzval lens would agree with me. This lens is perfect. It is a must-have gadget for every photographer and collector.

Could you share one of your favorite pieces with us?

My favorite piece was taken on the first day of 2015 when the sun is going down, and I shot it with the last gleam. The result wass fantastic! The girl holding a leaf in her hand means a new page in a brand new year in Chinese.

Do you have any thoughts and ideas that would like to share with other Petzval users?

The Petzval is a manual lens. You have to be extremely careful and patient when you are handling its focus, especially when you are using the big aperture. As it has a very shallow depth-of-view when you are using the big aperture, you may find it hard to identify its focus sometimes. It seems everything is blurred. I don’t suggest you to treat it as an ordinary 85mm portrait lens. It is unique and full of surprises! When you are familiar with the Petzval, you could handle the bokeh and the focus easily. Apart from shooting portraits, it is also good at shooting snaps and close-ups.

Where would you like to bring the Petzval to?

I want to bring the Petzval with me to Europe. I could enjoy shooting and traveling at the same time! The lens [gives] a sense that it belongs [in] Europe, anyway.

Are you planning any shooting projects? Or do you have any ongoing projects?

I am preparing my own photography exhibition. It would be launched in Hong Kong and the Mainland. It’s a valuable chance for me to let more people to know about me and my works. I hope it would be a great success.
