Lomopedia: Argus/Cosina STL 1000

The Argus brand was a well-known name in camera manufacturing during its heyday. The brand name was deemed important so much that even after a change in ownership, later cameras and models of renowned Argus cameras still carried the name.

The STL 1000 is no exception. This 35 mm SLR took the Argus name but also carried the mark of another reputable camera maker, Cosina. The mix of influences from both brands gave birth to this solidly-built camera.

With an all-metal body, the STL 1000 is rugged as it is dependent. The all-mechanical features help users to shoot with confidence. No worrying about botched shots due to low batteries. Just wind the STL 1000, set your preferred settings and fire. It’s easy as that.

A notable feature of the STL 1000 is its Cpal Square metal focal plane that works like a charm. It’s smooth, quick and responsive – quite an expensive part for a midrange SLR camera for its time.
