The 2001 coming-of-age drama film by Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón is now part of the highly-respected, prestigious The Criterion Collection catalog. What's more, it has a new cover image taken by Carlos Somonte using his Diana F+.
Award-winning photographer Carlos Somonte, who also shot the photograph used in the movie’s poster when it was first released, recently got in touch with Lomography to share the news. He wrote:
“For this re-edition by The Criterion Collection, I was contacted by Kim Hendrickson in New York. She wanted new photographic (by new, I mean unpublished) material to conform a new design for the film’s DVD cover and booklet. I went through my archives of images from that project in all formats, including [the ones taken with the] Diana. This is the image Kim and I chose for the cover.
If you will recall, Somonte and his love for the Diana were featured in the magazine just last May. Meanwhile, a list of the Criterion Collection “Director-approved Edition” features for “Y Tu Mamá También” can be found here.
All information and photograph in this article were provided to Lomography by Carlos Somonte.
