My Day in Analogue: Weekends in Bandung

2

Hello, fellow lomographers! To be honest, ever since I started working last year, I haven't been able to write a single analogue lifestyle piece. But today I decided to write something about my days, especially about my weekend in Bandung. It's not much but I take it as the start of a new beginning in writing all over again here. So, here's my weekend in Bandung!

Ever since I began working out of my hometown Bandung, I’ve been sent to several cities in Indonesia. But for three months I’ve been working in Bogor. Bogor is about one hour from Jakarta. Bandung, Bandung, and Bandung – I don’t know; it always comes to my mind since I’m working in Bogor.

About two weeks ago, I went back to Bandung because my future sister-in-law is graduating. I decided to go there on a Friday, which meant that I took a day off from work. The first thing that came to my mind was to go to my favorite photo lab! I had some rolls processed and bought some new ones, too. Just like the good old days!

After attending my future sister-in-law’s graduation, my girl and I went to her graduation dinner. It was nice to see familiar faces again.

As if the graduation dinner was not enough for us, we still went to get some hearty Mexican food. I felt so refreshed, meaning I was full but very happy and satisfied. Now I know why people come to Bandung just to eat!

If eating was nice, how about taking a lomowalk? I just needed a big dose of it! I’m a little jaded because of work so a lomowalk will only make things better. Luckily, I met Bebop and Fajar at the photo lab. We did a short but fun lomowalk in the afternoon. What more can I say? It was great! I could post another article showcasing the photos I took and just describing how fun it was. In the meantime, let me enjoy my holiday for a week… in Bandung!

Two Days and One Night in Vibrant Sapa

For three months last year, I traveled to 11 cities of eight Southeast Asian countries. My first destination from my hometown of Seoul was Vietnam. After 10 days in Hanoi, I joined a group tour to Sapa, an area known for its hill tribes. This is a photo story of my two days and one night in this remote but vibrant place.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

    Registering Moments With the Lomo'Instant

Some people say instant photos bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. In the name of analogue photography and good old memories, we passed by some classic spots in Vienna and took one shot after the other. Take a closer look at our gallery.

Doug DuBois on My Last Day at Seventeen

Doug DuBois spent five summers photographing the small neighborhood of Russell Heights in Ireland to capture the essence of coming of age: the inevitable loss of youth and the imminent transition into adulthood. Those four years resulted in his latest book, My Last Day At Seventeen. The book is a visual tale told through a collection of photographs and gives an alternative perspective through a comic narrative around the same subject. This creative combination of two distinct narratives in one book not only works wonderfully in visual terms; it also serves as an essential tool that lets the reader dig deeper into the story being told, making one go back to the book over and over again, yet from a new perspective, every single time.

    A Color Remix

It's human nature to be restless and imaginative. The real may be interpreted as what one sees or how one sees something. For the daydreamer, a scene from nature transforms into a canvas. Suddenly a field makes room for chemical coloring, all those anachronistic streaks that somehow look right. Or else, those beautiful colors amplified or subdued to their most pictorial shades. All in the world of trial-and-process film photography.
