From Russia with Love: Motorama Shoots with the La Sardina Splendour

I don't know many bands from Russia but one that I've been admiring for years is Motorama from Rostov-on-Don. With catchy tunes and adorable videos, they took my heart by storm and that of fans from all over the world. Because of their Russian origin, Motorama is of course familiar with Lomo products. Reason enough to let them become our latest LomoAmigos! Enjoy the interview with singer Vlad and check out their B&W photos, taken with a La Sardina Splendour.

Hey Vlad! Please introduce yourself and Motorama to the Lomography community.

I play guitar and sing in Motorama band, we are from Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

How would you describe your music?

We play pop music with guitars, keys and drums.

‘Wind In Her Hair’ got featured in one of our Petzval videos from 2013.

As you are from Russia you are probably already familiar with Lomo cameras. Am I right?

Yes, I have a classic Soviet Lomo Compact Camera.

Last year you had the chance to test our La Sardina Splendour camera. How did you like shooting with it?

It’s nice, very good camera.

Do you have any advice for La Sardina Newbies? What should someone who has no experience with the camera keep in mind?

Check some videos on YouTube if you have no idea how to use such cams and I think that’s all.

You took the camera with you on tour through Europe, South America and Russia. What did you take photos of? Please tell us more about your trip and the pictures you’ve taken.

Almost everything, parties, friends, nature, dogs, cars, walls. Any member of the band can use the cam and take a picture. Some pics were taken in Rostov-on-Don in our home studio and some during our Germany/Switzerland 2014 tour.

The La Sardina is a funny looking camera. Did people ask you about it?

Sometimes people think it’s a toy.

You’re also shooting with other analogue cameras. Which ones are your favorites?

Yashica T5, Olympus Mju 2 and Yashica MF-2.

What’s next for you guys? Any upcoming shows, music etc.?

We are recording a new album. Gonna play Pantiero Festival in Cannes in August.

Thanks for the interview!

LomoAmigos: The Ting Tings Go Analogue!

The Ting Tings are a musical duo from Manchester who have more pop hits than you can shake a stick at. They are most famous for their 2008 hit "That's Not My Name" which got even the stiffest of people shaking in their seats. The Ting Tings are back with a brand new album called Super Critical. They are big film fanatics (check out their website for proof) so we gave them a Sprocket Rocket Camera and a bunch of film to document their life in sunny IBIZA.

Abstract Visions and Phantasmic Monochromes by Ian Llewelyn

As a wildlife cameraman and photographer, Ian Llewellyn has worked on a number of television projects. The UK-based lensman breaks free from the strict confines of his profession by engaging in monochrome photography. His personal work is a plethora of abstract and experimental imagery, created in a style distinctly his own. Llewellyn is an ardent user of a Leica Monochrom camera, on which he mounted the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 Lens, producing the most imaginative, phantasmic results.
