Then and Now: Traditional Photomontages by Jerry Uelsmann

2

Photo manipulation may be easier these days with advanced software and programs but there are still people who prefer to do it the old-fashioned way. Let veteran photographer and photomontage creator Jerry Uelsmann show you how.

Most surreal conceptual photos on the Internet are made digitally - well, most of them. *Jerry Uelsmann* has been doing photomontages even before the first computer was capable of drawing images with pixels.

The seasoned photographer and Guggenheim fellow has developed ways and techniques to create one-of-a-kind images with old-school darkroom techniques. Utilizing his long years in the image making business and his knowledge in darkroom effects, Uelsmann delicately pieces each aspect of his images before laying them out on paper.

The photographer’s intricate and hauntingly beautiful works are case studies on their own. As each piece suggests different stories and interpretation, the viewer’s mind darts back and forth thinking about what the images really mean; or they can just plainly be in awe at the amazing process that yields such marvelous results.
