LomoGuru of the Week: -dakota-

She got into film photography at a very young age. Aside from photography, she also enjoys drawing, playing volleyball, and biking. Meet our LomoGuru of the Week, Claudia Sajeva, also known as -dakota-!

Claudia Sajeva aka -dakota-

Name: Claudia Sajeva
LomoHome: -dakota-
Location: Palermo, Italy
Number of years as a Lomographer: 5 years
Number of years in the Community: 3 or 4 years

Tell us about yourself.

I study architecture in Palermo. My main interest is photography. I started to take picture when I was thirteen with a point and shot film camera (Nikon AF100). After two years, my parents gave me my first digital camera. But in 2009, I came back to analogue photography, and I have never stop. I also love drawing, painting, playing volleyball, and biking.

Tell us something about your LomoHome’s name.

-dakota- is from the song Dakota by Stereophonics . I chose this because of this particular phrase in the song, but I can’t reveal which one is it. :)

Share with us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

Two years ago, I won the competition Love Unexpected February – Love Surrounds and received my prize, a La Sardina – Virginia is for Lovers edition, after two months. But a month later, I received another one! I sent a mail to the costumer service because but no one answered me! Two La Sardina cameras for me! Maybe, I’ve been very lucky because my second name is Virginia (I swear)!

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.

I’ve met a lot of lomographers! marina_sic, claudialarocca, clacli, cryboy, sizer77, and icomewhenieatcaponata were the firsts that I met! They all live in Sicily and I can consider them as friends!

I also met other lomographers, in chronological order: weidong, ophelia, silviaphoto77, lele_caps, atria007, and gionnired.

There’s one among these lomographers that I can consider more than a simple friend!

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

I hope I’ll be taking lomographs for the rest of my life. Why? Because lomography is a part of photography and I love it!

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences using this camera?

My favourite is the Lomo LC-A+ because it is small, resistant, and easy to use in every lighting condition. There’s something else I can say? Yes, f/.8.

Diana F+ is the first lomo camera that I’ve received, I’ll always love it!

Please share with us your favorite lomograph and explain why you love that particular image.

Credits: -dakota-

This is my favourite lomograph. I was in Piazza San Marco in Venice when I saw these four women wearing the same coat. I went as close as possible with my LC-A+ and I took the picture!

Please share a Lomograph you wish you had taken and explain why.

Credits: ccwu

This shot by ccwu convinced me to buy a Horizon camera. I love everything in this picture: the panoramic format, the colors, the sense of dynamism, and the city lights.

What’s the best Lomographic or photography advice you think you have given?

Think fast when you have to take a picture.

If there’s one song or movie that best describes your Lomo life, which one is it and why?

Mmm… in this moment, I say Forever Young by Alphaville

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Forget about the digital. Remember that you have a limited number of shots. Every analogue photo has more value than 10 digital shots.

Doug DuBois on My Last Day at Seventeen

Doug DuBois spent five summers photographing the small neighborhood of Russell Heights in Ireland to capture the essence of coming of age: the inevitable loss of youth and the imminent transition into adulthood. Those four years resulted in his latest book, My Last Day At Seventeen. The book is a visual tale told through a collection of photographs and gives an alternative perspective through a comic narrative around the same subject. This creative combination of two distinct narratives in one book not only works wonderfully in visual terms; it also serves as an essential tool that lets the reader dig deeper into the story being told, making one go back to the book over and over again, yet from a new perspective, every single time.
