Newcomer of the Week: rauschbild

His work allows him to be up close and personal with some of the best drone and psychedelic rock bands. Because of this, a chunk of his lomographs are all about the music scene, festivals, and concerts. Get to know our latest Newcomer of the Week, Vincenz Franke aka rauschbild!

Vincenz Franke aka rauschbild

Name: Vincenz Franke
LomoHome: rauschbild
Location: Leipzig, Germany

Please tell us a little something about yourself.

I’m quite moody. I love food, beer, biking, and art. I write and take photos for an independent music magazine called “Doom Metal Front” (all about Doom, Drone, Stoner, Psychedelic Rock) so I’m often at concerts and festivals and I work closely with bands. I am also a volunteer at an old Light Show Theatre and a Drug Info Project.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

When I was searching some photography-related things on the internet, I found myself landing on the Lomography website a couple of times. A lot of good articles, tips, reviews, etc. I joined because I don’t wanna miss something.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Clearly, it’s “Don’t worry about any rules!”

In this digital age, why still film?

For me, it’s absolutely more authentic. It has character and soul. I don’t really like this digital age. I’m a child of the past. I use stereo equipment from the 80’s, ray tube, a 12 year old handy, old furniture, and likewise old cameras.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

I mainly use my Praktica FX 2 and Mamiya 645. They’re just like my babies. But at the moment, I also use a Canon EOS 500 and AF 35 M.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

Maybe, a Belair X 6-12.

Any song or movie you live by?

Oh, I have a lot but here are the three sounds that currently define my life:

We Die Young by Alice in Chains
Born Too Late by Saint Vitus

Over The Edge by The Wipers

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

I really like lot of the pictures of sandravo. I like the understated color and grayness.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

Ah, this is not my thing. There so many people to look up to and each does such a great stuff in his or her own way.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

More interesting articles, tips, reviews, and pictures, of course.

Gilbert Blecken Captures Iconic Musicians on Film

Back in the 1990s, Gilbert Blecken was a big music fan who wrote for his own small music fanzine. He would interview bands in between sound checks and photograph them. He never became a professional photographer or worked for a company; he simply did it for his fanzine. Twenty years after, Gilbert’s photographs have matured into an amazing documentation of some of the biggest music icons of that era. We caught up with Gilbert to ask him about these photographs and the fascinating story behind them.

On the last Saturday of July, the old district of Borgo Vico hosted an art and music festival. There was also a graffiti contest, and the winner will exhibit his work at the Como Business Center for Expo 2015. I used my Zorki 4 loaded with an Ilford FP4+ film to document the event. I focused on the young artists who, amid the swirl of activity, had to concentrate on their large-scale pieces.
