The Eiffel Tower, or La Tour Eiffel, was Gustave Eiffel’s magnum opus built in the late 1880s to serve as the entrance arch to the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris, France. Originally a temporary attraction, it became a permanent fixture in the Paris skyline after city officials “recognized its value as a radiotelegraph station.” The Eiffel Tower is among the most photographed structures in the world, second only to the Empire State Building in New York City.
