A Not-So-Usual New Year’s Celebration with the Horizon Perfekt

The New Year holidays have long come and gone, but hey, better late than never, right?

For the longest time we’ve welcomed the New Year at our home here in the city. Last year, though, the family decided to have a different kind of celebration. So on the 29th of December, we all went on the road to the nearby province of Pangasinan for a three-day respite.

The house we stayed at is located at a large piece of land tucked in a quiet corner of the municipality of Rosales. Since there was hardly any mobile network signal there, my cousins and I have spent most of our time either walking around the property, watching movies stored in our external hard drives plugged in to the television (and on one occasion, watched “Super 8” on my laptop on the rooftop under the starry night sky, with blankets, pillows, and lots of junk food), picking fruits from trees in the garden, ate barbecue sold at a makeshift store by the road, or helping with the meal preparations. Of course, we took a lot of photos, too: two of my cousins used a DSLR and an iPad, respectively, while I used the Horizon Perfekt.

I wasn’t meaning to use the Horizon that time I did, to be perfectly honest. The manual SLR-like settings intimidated me, so I had hoped to use either the LC-A+ or the LC-Wide for that trip. That said, a huge part of my Horizon shots were taken outdoors. I tried shooting indoors at least twice and failed.

Admittedly, though, the Horizon was the perfect camera to use at the place we stayed at. There were lots of trees, plants, and open spaces – subjects that are best captured with a panoramic camera. Since I know that I’ll be forgetting to adjust the settings, I just made sure to set it at a specific aperture and shutter speed settings for use outdoors (I looked for a few tips online for this. However, I already forgot the combination I used).

Fortunately, I must say that the number of decent shots I got were good enough for a first time Horizon Perfekt user. I used rolls of expired Fuji Superia 400 and Kodak Color Plus 200 films; for some reason, the ones I took with the Superia have this look that make them appear as if shot with a pink filter. But all things considered, it had been a fun experience and the trickiest bit for me was changing the film. I’m not sure about you guys, but it took me about five to ten minutes just to load a roll to the camera!

You may view the rest of my Horizon Perfekt shots from this trip in my album, *respite*.

The Horizon Perfekt shoots images the length of two standard frames. With full aperture and shutter settings, this premium panoramic camera gives you total control over your shots. Prepare to be blown away by the amazing Horizon Perfekt, available here.

This is a great occasion to test a camera, to make experiments with films, to have fun and to photograph people while also having fun! This year, I used my gem, the wonderful Horizon Perfekt (that I bought from the Lomography Online Shop) loaded with a timeless film, a Kodak Tri-X 400 developed, as usually for b/w, by myself. Chemical Manipulations with the Lomo’Instant

Perhaps you’ve already had chance to try light painting, multiple exposures and long exposures with your Lomo’Instant, but what can you experiment with next? Well, that’s exactly the thought I had which led to giving this Tipster a go. I wanted to shoot Lomo’Instant photos which felt a bit “messier” than what I’m usually used to and to use a technique which would open up new possibilities with the kinds of images I could create with my favorite instant camera. Well, here I go!
