The Lomography x Zenit Petzval Lens was one of the main conspirators behind this video featuring singer-songwriter and musician Shane Alexander!
For his new video, cinematographer Patrick Sean Kennedy modified the Petzval for recording video with his Cinoflex Camera Package. A recreation of the brass 1840 Austrian lens that renders faster and a smoother focus for the 21st century use when combined with compatible Canon EF and Nikon F mount cameras, the new Petzval lens provides crisp focus of the subjects at the center, deep color saturation, and a beautiful blurred swirl around the subject, giving a dreamy, surreal aesthetic.
Kennedy’s first music video shot with the Petzval lens features musician and singer-songwriter Shane Alexander. Alexander grew up listening to Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin, The Moody Blues and Simon and Garfunkel, but was even more inspired by Neil Young. As he grew older, he created his own delicate, soulful, and enchanting sound. With help from Tim Arasheben, the Petzval lens was mounted on a camera rig, the Cinoflex Camera System, using a Canon 5D, resulting in an amazing video that showcases the capabilities of the Petzval Lens.
You can check to more of Patrick Sean Kennedy’s work at Clear Cut Digital. The Petzval Lens will be coming out this June and you can pre-order now!

We lent out our prototype Petzval lens to DC Watch, one of the largest digital camera online magazines in Japan. Check out their results after the jump.
Photos shot with a New Petzval lens are immediately recognizable for their super-sharp focus areas and wonderful swirly bokeh effect. Each New Petzval lens is crafted from brass (just like the original Petzval lens) and features premium glass optics. Together with Lomography, the lenses have been designed and constructed by a team of optics specialists at the Zenit factory in Russia. Zenit are master lens manufacturers and have the skill to build the Petzval lens for use with today’s SLR cameras.
