Please tell us something about yourself.

I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. Currently, I am working in Singapore as an IT guy for a telecommunications company. I am a big fan of music, video games, and of course, Lomography!

I like to travel by any means: boat, aircraft, automobile, bicycle or even by feet! I am interested in experiencing different cultures, seeing historical and heritage sites, meeting people, and making new friends along the way. I am also that kind of person who would try everything at least once.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

Back in 2010, I was looking for a digital point-and-shoot camera for an upcoming work assignment outside the country. I was just looking outside through the stores’ windows. But eventually, I found myself going inside this particular shop because of the astonishing and vivid collage of photographs on one of its walls. Right next this collage, there was a shelf filled with colorful and interesting cameras. On top of this shelf, there was a huge sign that read “Lomography”.

This made me curious and next thing I know, I am already searching for “Lomography” on the internet! When my next paycheck came, I immediately bought a Diana Mini because it seems like a perfect entry-level film camera. I also purchased a pack of Lomography X-Pro 200 along with it. I took the camera everywhere. I used it day and night. Before I even realized it, I already used up all three rolls. I was not completely happy with the results but I know that I will get better in time. Nonetheless, I got hooked!

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule No. 10: Don’t worry about any rules! You have the freedom to do anything with your camera and film. To shoot however you want. To shoot whatever you want. Let your instincts guide you, go with the flow, and just have fun with it. Reject reality and build your own through the camera’s lens!

In this digital age, why still film?

There is something about film that feels tangible and dreamy at the same time. Shooting film wants you to work hard and think thoroughly about each shot regardless if you are shooting a single frame or experimenting with multiple exposures. Experimenting and playing around with film allows your creativity to flow.

Shooting film makes you feel like a little kid inside a candy store. Whether you are on your way to the lab to pick up your processed films, or simply waiting for your films to be delivered to your home.

Also, people get amazed when they found that you have produced that stunning photograph with a film camera.

Film is timeless. Long live film!

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

Hands down, my all-time favorite camera is the L-CA+ — the camera that started it all. It takes great photos and it is very easy to use. It also has other great features like the multiple exposure switch and ISO control. I like experimenting with the LC-A+ and Splitzer.

What is the Lomography camera you’d want to have someday?

I have always wanted to try or own a medium format camera. If it would be my first medium format camera, I want it to be the Lubitel 166+!

Any song or movie you live by?

I don’t have a particular song or movie. But, here is a quote I like:

Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing and work hard. The right people, the ones who really belong in your life will come to you and stay. – Will Smith

Share your current favorite Lomograph. Why is this your favorite?

My current favorite Lomograph is this photo I took with a pre-loved LC-A+. I was fortunate enough to find this lovely camera. After buying it, I took it for a spin that night. I took this photo in one of my favorite bars located in Clarke Quay, Singapore.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

Hodachrome! If you haven’t visited his LomoHome yet, you should definitely do it now!

His Lomographs are just extraordinary and wonderful. His work inspires me and to go out there and experiment! I want to learn from him. Maybe someday he can do a workshop here in Singapore. I would not miss that for the world!

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I’m looking forward to learning from everyone here in the Community. Hopefully, I’d be able to meet other Lomographers, too! I love to try film swapping as well. And maybe someday, I will be able to contribute something big to the community. Also, I am looking forward to more workshops in the Lomography Gallery Store here in Singapore!
