Then and Now: Exploding Collages by Lola Dupre

Creativity and imagination combined make for quite a tandem. Add scissors and popular portraits of pop culture icons into the mix and you’ve got yourself amazing exploding portraits of famous celebrities.

*Lola Dupré* has a unique way of seeing things. Instead of seeing pictures and images just the way they are, she sees them in a surreal way. Case in point – Dupré’s exploding portraits of pop culture icons that look familiar and strangely different at the same time.

The Spanish collage artist and illustrator is fond of re-imagining different images into one-of-a-kind pictures that require a double back to be truly appreciated. Her exploding collages composed of hundreds (maybe even thousands) of snips of paper offer a fragmented view into the image of pop culture.

Famous portraits of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepurn, and Brigitte Bardot are given a unique kind of face lift with scissors and intricate cuts that fan into a majestic explosion. The different shards from the portraits are then artfully placed and rearranged to come up with a view that rivals even that of a drug-induced trip while looking through a kaleidoscope.
