The Daily Hex: International Klein Blue

2

A rich blue color with an equally rich history. Check out the story behind today's The Daily Hex!

What’s a ‘hex’ anyway?
Hex actually pertains to hex values, which are 6-digit hexidecimal numbers that are primarily used in web design. Your photographs can be viewed by hex values and we have almost 1,500 common colors that you can browse through, most of which have names that are quirky, goofy, and downright weird. But don’t be fooled, these colors are real eye candies, too!

In his search for colors that will best immortalized his ideas as an artist, French artist Yves Klein, with the help of chemists at Rhône Poulenc, developed this deep blue color, International Klein Blue. This color became a central theme in most of Klein’s work, transforming the color into an art itself.

For Klein, this shade of blue represents immateriality and boundlessness. Do these photo successfully translated that?
