The Baltic Herring Market is a one-week-event at the market square of Helsinki in the early October. At this time, fishermen from outside Helsinki sell their products before the fishing season for herring is over.
Every year in the first week of October, fishermen from the southern coast of Finland gather together at the Kauppatori, the central market square at one of the port areas of Helsinki. You can also see a lot of flags from Aland, which is the semi-independent “Swedish” island in the southwest of Finland. All of them sell hundreds of variants of marinated herring and also tasty smoked fish. Finland and especially Helsinki without fish is like Kermit without Miss Piggy. The high prices are worth trying some of the offers.
Many huts line on the Kauppatori. But some fishermen also sell their products directly from their boats. This was a very nice scene to take photos of. It is very funny to watch the seagulls and their attempts to get one or more pieces of fish.
I visited the market on a weekday and it was already filled up with people. So, avoid coming on a weekend when you probably are not able to move forward.
Exhibits, workshops, lomowalks and tons of Halloween fun! It's time to head for your the Lomography Gallery Store or Lomography Embassy Stores in your area. October is packed with events that no one should miss.
Halloween came early this year via the New York Comic Con 2014. Folks from Lomography NYC stepped out from the normal day-to-day scene and into an alternate universe of cosplay, costumes, and creatures. New York Comic Con 2014 was the biggest it's ever been with people from all over country to celebrate their favorite time of year!
In New York City, winter has been harsh and long, the nights long and cold, and shooting outside is not fun anymore. So when the Lomo'Instant Boston Edition hit the shelves this week and the new Splitzer arrived at the Lomography Gallery Store New York, we decided to do a round of light painting portraits instead of sunny ones.
Music is all in the family for The Staves. The British acoustic folk rock trio from Watford, Hertfordshire, England is composed of sisters Emily Staveley-Taylor (vocals), Jessica Staveley-Taylor (guitar and vocals), Camilla Staveley-Taylor (ukulele and vocals). They've toured with Bon Iver, released their second full-length album, "If I Was" early this year, and performed at this year's Glastonbury.
There is nothing better than a photo shot at the perfect moment. Henri Cartier-Bresson's principle on "The Decisive Moment" is a principle that we should still follow to this day. A perfectly-timed photo creates impact, whether it's one of a friend jumping into the pool or a couple emerging from the ceremony on their wedding day. For this rumble, we want to see that breathtaking moment, shot at the perfect time. And you showed us what it's like to be on time.

The best thing about working for Lomography is having first access to new products. Imagine everyone's excitement when the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 Art Lens 2.8/32M was delivered to the headquarters in Vienna, where members of the Lomography team took turns testing this tiny yet powerful optic on various cameras. Meanwhile, Tom Bates from Marketing teased out the idyllic and colorful possibilities of shooting with the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 lens on a trip to the UK countryside.
In more ways than one, Lomography is an art form as much as it is an effective tool to communicate. This is proven in the politically-driven exhibition “Selfies from Oranienplatz," of which the opening event will be taking place on the 16th of October as part of the European Month of Photography in Berlin. Years before the world knew her as John Lennon's better half and artistic partner, Yoko Ono herself was already an established artist. The transition from one's teenage years into young adulthood is an enigmatic, eventful and rather emotional phase.
Such an intriguing subject matter seems to set the perfect theme for Doug DuBois’ latest work: My Last Day at Seventeen.
At the end of March this year, my friends and I went to Bromo in East Java. We went from Jakarta to Yogyakarta for one day before heading to Mt. Bromo. We decided to take photos of everything there with our analog cameras.
