The Baltic Herring Market is a one-week-event at the market square of Helsinki in the early October. At this time, fishermen from outside Helsinki sell their products before the fishing season for herring is over.
Every year in the first week of October, fishermen from the southern coast of Finland gather together at the Kauppatori, the central market square at one of the port areas of Helsinki. You can also see a lot of flags from Aland, which is the semi-independent “Swedish” island in the southwest of Finland. All of them sell hundreds of variants of marinated herring and also tasty smoked fish. Finland and especially Helsinki without fish is like Kermit without Miss Piggy. The high prices are worth trying some of the offers.
Many huts line on the Kauppatori. But some fishermen also sell their products directly from their boats. This was a very nice scene to take photos of. It is very funny to watch the seagulls and their attempts to get one or more pieces of fish.
I visited the market on a weekday and it was already filled up with people. So, avoid coming on a weekend when you probably are not able to move forward.
My city of Como hosts a series of nice events this season. One of these is Creativity Day, where the upper schools show their project at the main square of the pedestrian area. This year, my students have assembled a Lomography Konstruktor at the main square of the city! Take a look after the jump!
Before they became the big shot filmmakers that they are now, they were of course once students making their initial attempts at filmmaking. In this week's list, we're putting the spotlight on these early works by George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, and Roman Polanski!
Every year, just a few weeks before summer, I dedicate a series of photos to the joy of living outdoors in this good season. One of the most common pleasures is taking one's socks and shoes off to feel the first warm rays of sun on our pale feet, which were prisoners inside shoes throughout the long winter season. So, it's time to take off your socks and shoes and relax barefoot! Where? Of course, on the walls surrounding the beautiful lake! Take a look!
As one of our most seasoned community members, herbert-4's collection of photos spans over decades of experience in film photography. Many of his albums contain images that we could only dream of capturing, from a time and generation that not many of us had the chance to be part of. Not surprisingly, each photo is entitled to its own story, and herbert-4 shares the story behind this one after the jump.

Together with Lomography, the lenses have been designed and constructed by a team of optics specialists at the Zenit factory in Russia. Zenit are master lens manufacturers and have the skill to build the Petzval lens for use with today’s SLR cameras.
They're among the first things we see in a movie, yet they're also among the ones that we often overlook. For this week's dose of inspiration, we'll have a look at a number of lovely, elaborate movie titles from yesteryears.
In more ways than one, Lomography is an art form as much as it is an effective tool to communicate. This is proven in the politically-driven exhibition “Selfies from Oranienplatz," of which the opening event will be taking place on the 16th of October as part of the European Month of Photography in Berlin. Read further to learn more about the project and event.
In this article, I'll show you the usual route I take whenever I walk through the streets of Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong, this time in preparation for making a puppet called Mr. Golden. I don't know many bands from Russia but one that I've been admiring for years is Motorama from Rostov-on-Don. With catchy tunes and adorable videos, they took my heart by storm and that of fans from all over the world. Because of their Russian origin, Motorama is of course familiar with Lomo products. Reason enough to let them become our latest LomoAmigos! Enjoy the interview with singer Vlad and check out their B&W photos, taken with a La Sardina Splendour.
