Ever wished you could live in a world where you could bite a piece off a chocolate tree trunk, lick a dollop of cream snow, or climb a tasty pastry mountain? Two talented food photographers have been making and photographing a fantasy world where all of these and more are possible!
Using various food items as backdrops and miniature figurines, photographers Pierre Javelle and Akiko Ida have been taking beautiful photos for a deliciously witty series called MINIMIAM. Through their lens and impressive imagination, Pierre and Akiko take us to landscapes made using donuts, cakes, fruits, vegetables, and even dollops of meringue mix, and introduces us to the lucky miniature citizens (1/87 scale models bought from hobby shops) “living” in them.
Pierre and Akiko make diptychs for MINIMIAM: one photo showing a close crop of the scene, and another zoomed-out shot revealing the culinary context. The title is actually a word play on miniature and “yummy” (miam in French). The married couple, spurred by their commercial food photography projects, has been working on their mouth-watering series since 2002, with 60 diptychs to date.
