Erno-Erik Raitanen's Bacteriograms


As long as you're sufficiently inspired, you can never run out of photo ideas. A perfect example would be Erno-Erik Raitanen's incredibly interesting Bacteriograms!

One usually associates bacteria with sickness and other icky things, but artist Erno-Erik Raitanen found a way to channel it into something good and creative! In his Bavteriograms, the Finnish artist gets bacteria from his own body and cultivates it on a gelatin surface of a film negative. During the whole chemical process, the bacteria consumes the gelatin and leaves interesting shapes and colors on the negative that is eventually developed in the darkroom.     Remember, there are good bacteria too. Without them you would die. Think I'll experiment with this.
