The city of Aarhus has a very large and active film and media side. So big in fact that they built a purpose made office building with studios so that more collaborations could be forged. I was fortunate enough to work with Picturewise in this complex.
The location however is not the building with its bright colors, it’s large glass and modern take on the old warehouse that it actually is. This location is in fact concerned with what lies beneath (I mean the cellar – not the horrendous Harrison Ford movie).
While I was working there one of my jobs was to sort all of the storage out and categorize the movies. This all happened in the cellar, a place which has it’s own unique smell, so unique i have no words for it other than dog poo it like perfume it comparison. And the reason I renamed the cellar the smeller (see what i did there?) Once the initial vomiting stage had passed I began to take a closer look and realized that this place was a lomographers gold mine. There are hidden corners and crevses everywhere, random things like a graffitied picture of a dog and numbers on the floor, why and how they got there is unknown. During my many explorations of the place i bravely went even further down into the smeller and discovered a maze of storage areas, each with more random numbers, and holes. Beautifully rusted, neglected and decaying. Niels, my father in law and lomo race compadre, came with me and after we had done some monkish is type chants and sang for a while we took some shots.
If you are ever in Aarhus please go to this place, and please give me a call (which you will need to do as there is a code to get in and I am not telling you in unless i am invited to come with you!)
