4

Wooohooo, the very first completed Petzval Lenses have recently shipped for our Kickstarter backers and we got a few delivered to Lomography HQ!

Of course, we couldn’t wait to get out and start shooting with our lenses, but before we did, we took a few photos to share with you all the treats that come included in the box. Don’t forget, the lenses are now also available for pre-order in the Lomography Online Shop, so if you’d like to get your own hands on one, place your order soon as they will be delivered on a first come, first served basis and are selling out fast!

At the end of last week, the first 500 Lomography x Zenit New Petzval Lenses were dispatched to our Kickstarter backers. And we were thrilled when a few turned up on the doorstep of Lomography HQ. We carefully un-wrapped the beautiful parcels that arrived and took a peek inside at all the goodies. Here are a small selection of photos we took whilst we opened the box!

If you are little overawed by all the objects of desire that come as part of the Kickstarter rewards, here is a complete list. We have also marked the items you’ll get if you pre-order the Lens in the Online Shop!

You still need to produce this in M42 and K mount. Think about all the Zenit cameras this would fit if these had also been made M42 and K mount, not to mention Pentax, Praktica, Yashica, Ricoh, Vivitar, Porst, Revueflex, Petri, Voigtlander, Zeiss, Cosina, Hanimex, Sears, Sigma, and many, many others! Nikon and Canon are a narrow, mostly digital segment of the market. And maybe offer it with a seven or more segment diaphragm, rather than Waterhouse stops that get lost. We are not that nostalgic. And, if you are worried about compatible focus, just make it focus a bit past infinity, and let the camera worry about it. You seem to be thinking about digital professionals, and not so much about your own Lomographers, so, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!! @tomas_bates

@herbert-4 - Many thanks for the input and sorry for not replying to you on this issue before as I know you have also commented on this in other articles :-) For now we are obviously focusing on the Canon/Nikon mount lenses. Since we are still in production phase and want to make sure everything is perfect. But of course we see the benefit in also producing a Petzval for other mounts and this is an option we will continue to explore. Without wanting to spoil the surprise, I can assure you we are as focused as ever on the world of analogue and have some very exciting things lined up for 2014 ;-)

@tomas_bates Thank you for the kind reply. Now for the Petzval in other mounts, Don't just explore the idea, get working on the product, even better, on a T-mount with adapters for everything (Exacta mount is also good), and a real diaphragm, not easy to lose Waterhouse stops. I say again, PLEASE!! Herb

    Finally, My Own Petzval Lens

In April of this year I had the chance to test the Petzval Lens and to write a review on it for the German photography forum Kwerfeldein. The lens excited me from the very beginning, at the time it was introduced on Kickstarter. I was afraid that once I had tested the lens, I would want to have one of my own! Well, that’s what happened; a year later, I finally bought my very own Petzval lens.

Exciting swirling bokeh effects - DC Watch's test shots with the Lomography X Zenit Petzval Lens

This new Petzval lens is a revival of a lens that was created in the 19th century. The optics has come to life again with the help of a crowdfunding website and all the backers that have supported this project. The production is done by one of Russia’s lens companies – Zenit. We lent out our prototype Petzval lens to DC Watch, one of the largest digital camera online magazines in Japan. Check out their results after the jump.
