The most iconic photo of Earth recently celebrated its 41st birthday.Happy 41st, Blue Marble!
A few days ago, we celebrated the 41st birthday of one of the most iconic photos of all time, NASA’s “Blue Marble”. It was shot at a distance of 45,000km from the surface with a 70-millimeter Hasselblad camera, and an 80-millimeter Zeiss lens. The shot was jointly credited to all three Apollo 17 crew members: Eugene Cernan, Ronald Evans and Jack Schmitt. Since then, no human has traveled far enough into space to see such a full view of earth, but similar shots have been taken by unmanned spacecraft. Quite a feat, eh?
